Transient Concretions

Mark Moore Gallery is pleased to announce Transient Concretions, Ryan Taber’s first solo exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition brings together a selection of Taber’s recent sculptures and related drawings.
For Transient Concretions, Taber adopts the means of the modeling hobbyist – and its everyday enthusiasm for dioramic presentation – as a mode by which to look at the formalism and pedagogy of divergent artistic ideologies. In particular, he turns the focus on 19th century American Romanticist landscape painting and its historical impact, linking the work of figures like Albert Bierstadt and Frederick Church to the concerns of 60’s minimalist like Robert Smithson and their attempts to navigate the complexities of American art-making at that time. Through it all Transient Concretions finds Taber exploring his own formalism and what it means to be an American artist.
Ryan Taber’s work has recently been seen in such exhibitions as Supersonic at Art Center College of Design; Field Trip at the San Francisco Art Institute; and Historecital at the Santa Clarita Historical Society. In 2004, Taber graduated with an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts.
