Mark Moore Gallery is pleased to announce new paintings by Lisa Stefanelli.
With disarming beauty, Stefanelli’s paintings present the space beyond the natural world. With imagery taking form through a series of red lines, Stefanelli’s shapes mimic and copy one another while defying redundancy through their evolution of structure. Adding personal reflection to the methods of production, Stefanelli’s forms also relate to her own history as a competitive ice skater, her forms twisting and turning in elegant lines of hermetic remembrance for passing moments in time and place.
The organic, flowing red lines in her two new series Wifery and Turn Pike contrast against background colors remembered from both the dull beige of a computer keyboard, to the color of the sky before a summer thunderstorm, evoking tension between the organic shapes and the process of fabrication of the physical painting.
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Stefanelli has shown extensively with Pierogi Gallery in New York. In 2005, she was included in Extreme Abstraction at The Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo New York.
