JOSH DOV
Pulse
November 8 - December 20, 2003
LA-based artist Josh Dov explores the grid?arguably the basis of modernist painting by way of a simple tool: a fountain pen. Through carefully considered variations in pressure and ink load he builds a dense, undulating framework, a matrix of horizontal and vertical lines crisscrossing the surface of his support. Dov's deliberate approach belies its complex and unexpected effect. His paintings and works on paper are open and nuanced, rhythmic and full of motion.
The exhibition is the artist's first at Mark Moore Gallery. Dov received his MA from the University of New Mexico in 1997. His work has been exhibited in Albuquerque and Los Angeles, most recently in the group exhibition Seven LA Artists at Hatch Gallery.
