LOS ANGELES-BASED ARTIST DEBORAH BROWN WILL PRESENT HER THIRD EXHIBITION WITH MARK MOORE GALLERY FROM JUNE 8 THROUGH JULY 13, 1996.
IN A MARKED DEPARTURE FROM HER PREVIOUS, INTIMATELY-SCALED WORKS, CREATED FROM DIS-ASSEMBLED TOYS, BROWN WILL PRESENT A MAMMOTH, 10-1/2 FOOT HIGH HYBRID, COMPOSED OF THE BODY OF A ROOSTER FROM A GENERIC AMERICAN FAST-FOOD CHICKEN DRIVE -THRU, AND THE HEAD OF THAT LARGE BOY/MAN RESTAURANT CHAIN ADVERTISEMENT FROM THE FIFTIES KNOWN AS ’BOB’.
THE ’CORPORATE’ USE OF DOLL AND ANIMAL IMAGERY FROM CHILDHOOD AND ITS IMPLICIT USE AS A TOOL FOR ENTICEMENT, SALES, AND IN THIS CASE, ACTUAL CONSUMPTION, IS HERE DEBUNKED IN BROWN’S RECONSTITUTIONS; PERCEPTIONS OF SELF AS PROSCRIBED BY THE CULTURE AT LARGE ARE CHARGED WITH HUMOR, DOUBT, AND THE SINISTER.
ANCILLARY WORKS WILL INCLUDE A GROUP OF OVAL (EGG) - SHAPED MIRRORS, COVERED/INFESTED WITH PRESERVED INSECTS - STUDYING OUR OWN PERCEPTIONS OF VANITY.
