On the heels of a successful Fall show in New York at Feigen Contemporary, the Mark Moore Gallery is proud to present the second solo exhibition by Las Vegas artist Yek. Armed with a palette of colors from neon to pastel, Yek returns with a surprising group of paintings. In this body of work the artist has broken up his monochromatic surfaces with eccentric patterns. The ’portal’ aspect of his previous paintings has become more of a mirror, closer to Roy Lichtenstein’s ’Mirror’ paintings of the early 1970’s.
For this show, Yek has created paintings again using constructed shapes and immaculate surfaces, but now with illusionary compositions, both shimmering and architectural. More than ever, Yek plays with the content of color and light, making a truly subjective language that is fetishistic, and unexpected. His visual cues point to something imaginary, something synthetic, organic, and freshly possible. This body of work utilizes the tradition of abstract painting and conjures an eclectic vision of our new millennium.
