Vernon Fisher
A SELECTION OF FOUR RECENT WORKS ON PAPER BY TEXAS-BASED ARTIST VERNON FISHER WILL BE SHOWN AT MARK MOORE GALLERY FROM OCTOBER 19 - NOVEMBER 16, 1996.
VERNON FISHER RENDERS THE ACTIVITIES OF THE BRAIN; UTILIZING A “BLACKBOARD” GROUND SIMILAR TO THOSE FOUND IN CLASSROOMS, FISHER’S IMAGERY IS BEST LIKENED TO THOUGHTS THAT OCCUR, ARE REGISTERED, AND PASS INTO THE SUBCONSCIOUS; COMBINED WITH PAINTED “ERASURES”, FISHER’S DISPARATE IMAGERY AND TEXTS VISUALIZE THE MERCURIAL NATURE OF MEMORY AND DESIRE.
VERNON FISHER WAS THE RECIPIENT OF A 1995 GUGGENHEIM FOUNDATION GRANT; HIS WORK IS IN THE PERMANENT COLLECTIONS OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART, THE SAN DIEGO MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART, THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, NEW YORK, AND OTHERS.
