Press Release

Mark Moore Gallery is pleased to announce its third solo exhibition by Todd Hebert.

The exhibition will include paintings and drawings that bring together snowmen, bubbles, water bottles, and spider webs; as well as a small series of drawings featuring the Chinatownland sign from downtown Los Angeles.

The play between dissonance and stability embodied in Hebert's work is created by the "push-pull" dynamic of focus and blur. This efficient spatial device underscores the works temporal, often seasonal subject matter.

In Dew, Bottle, 2005, a dew speckled web, in extreme focus, hangs before a blurred

water bottle, and backyard rail. Attention is bounced about the surface of the painting, from the edges back to the center, creating a scenario of constant visual reconsideration. As Hebert puts it, this sort of spatial throb helps give the work a "congenial edge": where familiar, almost banal, objects and settings are given a renewed aura.

Hebert recently received the Emerging Artist Award from the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT. He will be having an exhibition at the museum in conjunction with the award from October 16, 2005 to March 12, 2006. His work can be found in prominent collections throughout the United States, including The Weisman Foundation, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Carnation Collection.
