The Mark Moore Gallery is pleased to present the second solo exhibition by Andreas Freitag. The artist is a product of the University of the Arts in Berlin, the Ecole National Superior de Decoratifs in Paris, and the California Institute of the Arts. He has been exhibiting in Germany since 1998.
Freitag will exhibit his new images of Berlin. The color photographs were shot at night while walking through various neighborhoods and streets across the city. Freitag utilizes long exposures that result in dream like images. His subjects are building facades and the nocturnal sky. His notion of ’Human Nature’ seems an ironic assessment of ghostly concrete bunkers and perversely colored skies. The city of Berlin appears operatic in scale, and surreal with Frietag’s handling of the camera. The artist is highly aware of his German (and other) contemporaries, and subverts the genre of “empty architecture” photography with his use of the local ambient color and strict compositions. The images are reminiscent of Kafka, Fritz Lang, and David Lynch - starkly beautiful, seductive and haunting.
